Shiseido Senka Perfect Whip Vitamin C Poreless Glow Yuzu Face Foam

50g

The yuzu one. Vitamin C, a quiet dose of salicylic acid, and the densest foam in the range.

Perfect Whip earned its place in Japanese bathrooms on texture alone. Two centimetres whipped up with water becomes a lather thick enough to hold its shape, which lets you wash your face without your hands really touching it. On skin prone to congestion, that matters more than most people realise.

This is the Vitamin C version, built around magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, a stable, water-soluble vitamin C derivative that doesn't oxidise the way pure ascorbic acid does. Alongside it sits real yuzu extract from the Japanese citrus, and a small amount of salicylic acid, the oil-soluble acid that works inside the pore rather than on the surface. That last ingredient is what the name is quietly referring to.

Two forms of hyaluronic acid keep skin from feeling stripped, and sericin silk protein is the Senka signature throughout the range.

At 50g this is the travel size, and a tube lasts considerably longer than it looks.

Why You'll Love It

• Genuinely dense foam. It holds its shape, which keeps your hands off your face.
• Stable vitamin C. Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, which doesn't degrade in the tube the way pure vitamin C does.
• Real yuzu extract. Citrus junos, the Japanese citrus, rather than a fragrance note.
• Salicylic acid. A gentle amount, working inside the pore rather than across the surface.
• Two hyaluronic acids. Sodium hyaluronate and the acetylated form, so skin doesn't feel tight.
• Silk protein. Sericin, the Senka house ingredient.
• No alcohol. Unlike the Acne Care version in this range.
• 50g travel size. Good for a weekend bag, or for trying it before the full size.

Why the Foam Matters

Most people cleanse badly, and in the same way: not enough lather, too much hand on face, thirty seconds of hurry.

A dense foam fixes it mechanically. The lather cushions your fingers away from the skin and the surfactants do the work. It takes water and about thirty seconds of whipping to get there, and it changes the whole experience.

One thing to know about the texture out of the tube: it's thick and paste-like rather than creamy. People tend to either love that or find it odd. Once it's emulsified with water, it becomes the foam the brand is known for.

An Honest Word on Vitamin C

This is a cleanser, and a cleanser is on your face for about sixty seconds before it goes down the sink.

What it can reasonably do is leave skin looking brighter and feeling smoother, and the salicylic acid will help with the look of congestion and texture over a few weeks. Reviewers mention exactly that, particularly across the forehead.

What it won't do is change your skin tone. If pigmentation is your concern, a leave-on vitamin C serum is the product that does that work. This one is a very good cleanser that happens to contain vitamin C, which is a different and more modest proposition.

Who It's For

• Dull-looking skin and congestion across the forehead, nose and chin
• Anyone who wants an active cleanser without alcohol in it
• Combination skin that finds most foaming washes leave it tight
• People who like a thorough, properly clean finish
• Travel, gym bags, and trying Senka before buying a full size

If You're Using Actives for the First Time

There's salicylic acid in this, which the name doesn't tell you. It's a small amount and it's in a cleanser, so it's mild. But it counts.

What that means in practice: if you're also using an acid toner, a BHA serum, a spot treatment or anything with retinol, don't stack them all on the same day. Pick one or two, give your skin a few weeks to settle, then add something else if you still need to. Most teenage skin problems get worse from doing too much, not too little.

And wear sunscreen. Acids make skin more sensitive to sun, and we live in a place with a lot of it. This matters more here than it would in London.

Two centimetres, whipped into proper foam with wet hands, lukewarm water to rinse. If your skin feels tight afterwards, the water was too hot.
